Be heard at Bermagui Woolworths forum

A PUBLIC forum has been organised for Bermagui residents to have their say on the proposed Woolworths development.

The Bega Valley Shire Council yesterday released details of the upcoming community forum, which the BDN understands were also distributed via letter late last week to those who made submissions to the development application.

The forum, to be hosted by the Bermagui Chamber of Commerce, will take place at 6pm on Wednesday, February 13, at the Bermagui Community Centre.

“This forum follows a move by councillors to defer a decision on the proposed Woolworths development,” planning and environment group manager Andrew Woodley said.

“Councillors will now have the opportunity to talk with local residents about their concerns.

“It’s important to remember that a decision on this matter is yet to be made, and the views of residents and business owners attending the forum will be taken into consideration.”

The community forum follows through with a resolution made at the BVSC’s January 16 meeting, where a packed and vocal gallery heard deputations both for and against the development.

The deferred decision agreed to by the council at that meeting was that in accord with the code of meeting practice the matter be deferred for further a report on issues raised during deputations; that councillors attend a site inspection with council staff; and that councillors meet with community members for further feedback.
