EACH year over 400 people jump into the crystal blue water of Tathra from the historic Tathra Wharf and swim to the beach in the Tathra Wharf to Waves Weekend.
Why not join them and experience the thrill of being part of one of the Far South Coast’s premier events.
The swim claims centre stage of a weekend of fun and fitness in Tathra, which includes a 2km Beach Fun Run and a Bega to the Beach 30km mountain bike ride.
Organisers urge visitors to the area to join in the fun over this Australia Day long.
Saturday will start with the Coastlife Tathra Beach 2km Fun Run at 12.30pm. All members of the family can enter this run, which starts on the beach just north of the Tathra Beach Country Club and finishes in front of the Tathra Surf Lifesaving Club. Age categories range from school-aged children to over 40s.
For bike enthusiasts, the 30km Bike Bash leaves Bega at 5pm, and competitors ride over Dr George Mountain to Tathra through some of the most breathtaking bushland scenery the Sapphire Coast has to offer.
The event finishes at the Tathra Surf Club with major random draw prizes to be won and refreshments.
The main event, Tathra Wharf to Waves, is on Sunday from 7am.
The ocean event boasts a number of ocean swims: the 1200m Michael Marshman Architect’s ‘Splash for Cash’ open race (12+ yrs) and a series of 600m age races from the historic Tathra Wharf.
Competitors swim around a course and finish on the beach in front of the Tathra Surf Life Saving Club.
The first male and female in the 1200m ‘Splash for Cash’ will receive $500 and a unique medallion.
A new event on the weekend calendar is the ‘Flipper Thrash’ beach swim – so there really is something for everyone.
There will be prizes for winners and major random draw prizes over the weekend, but you have to be in an event to win it!
Spectators are welcome and there will be lots of food and refreshments available.
The finale to the weekend will be an evening of fun and dancing at the surf club on Sunday night where the talented Truck Brothers will be performing.
