Tathra all-rounder Mick Edmunds scored 39 runs against Eden on Saturday.
TATHRA handed Far South Coast Cricket Association leader Eden a cricket lesson at Lawrence Park, Tathra, on Saturday.
The Maroons opened the batting on day one of their two-day A grade battle to register a defendable total of 184 runs off 42.1 overs, but it was their bowling and fielding performance that left Eden rattled.
“Devastating” would be the word used to describe Tathra’s bowling performance, while the optimum word to describe Eden’s efforts with the willow would be “embarrassing”.
Eden produced one of the worst batting performances of the 2012-13 season to be left with the miserable figures of 5-32 off a mammoth 29 overs, at a run-rate of about 1.1 run per over.
A revolving door would not have looked out of place at Lawrence Park as Eden batsmen came and went in very quick succession.
Opener Luke Timms was caught by Mick Edmunds off the bowling of Adam Blacka for one run, Corey Spink was caught by Ben O’Reilly off the bowling of Chris O’Brien, also for a sole run.
Eden Captain Drew Mudaliar was caught by Geordie Gibbs off the bowling of O’Brien for a duck, Mark Spink fell for four runs yet again to the bowling of O’Brien after Gibbs took his second catch, and Tim Bowes was caught by Rob Stevenson off the bowling of O’Brien for two.
Dylan and Reece Wheeler occupied the crease at the end of play with 10 and five runs respectively.
Eden will need its lower order to dig-in if the side expects to salvage any respectability on Saturday.
Ironically, if Eden can claw its way back to register a win, it will have produced one of the best comebacks in FSCCA history.
O’Brien was the pick of the Tathra bowlers taking 4-10 off eight overs, while Blacka bowled well in support with figures of 1-18 off 13 overs, which included five maidens.
Tathra batsman Peter Bennett (38), Stevenson (47) and Edmunds (39) played well, while Blacka (10) and Gibbs (11) both reached double figures.
In the other match, Merimbula and Pambula are embroiled in a tight contest at Berrambool Oval.
Batting first, Pambula was all out for 178 off 60 overs, with Dylan Cook top scoring with 41 runs.
In reply, Merimbula is one wicket down for 41 and needs 137 runs for victory.
