WITH emergency services on high alert during last week’s extreme weather conditions, a report of a car crash and potential vehicle fire in Bega was cause for immediate concern.
Thankfully fire did not break out after a woman rolled her vehicle on Coopers Gully Rd, with help quickly on the scene to assist her.
Andy Rodgers was driving his gas tanker along Coopers Gully Rd just north of Bega on Friday afternoon when he noticed a car in his rear-vision mirror.
“I was travelling pretty slowly so I pulled aside to let her past – then about a kilometre further on I came around the corner and she was on her side,” Mr Rodgers said.
“I’m a first aid officer so I stayed with her until the ambulance and police arrive.
“I couldn’t see any obvious injuries – she wasn’t bleeding and she wasn’t trapped.
“But the car was on its passenger side and she was still strapped in so she was just hanging there.”
Mr Rodgers quickly offered his assistance to the driver. He also placed his safety triangles on the road to alert other motorists of the incident around a blind turn.
A friend of the female driver waited near the vehicle for the arrival of a tow truck.
She said her friend had just called her from Bega Hospital to say she was alright, “but a bit in shock”.
