Family fun to welcome new year

BEGA mum Victoria Gauci said her family had a “lovely” time at Merimbula’s Music on the Green New Year’s Eve party.

Her children Jack and Matilda enjoyed the night’s entertainment at Ford Park, which included music, jumping castles and a special 9.30pm fireworks spectacular.

There were also fireworks to ring in the new year at midnight, but the earlier display is becoming increasingly popular with families.

Festivities started at 5.30pm and featured live music throughout the night by Sydney band Soul Machine and locals Andy O’Donnell and the Figmentz.

“My kids loved the 9.30pm fireworks and the whole night had a really nice vibe,” Ms Gauci said.

“Everyone was friendly and in a good mood, it made it really special for the kids.”

Although the fireworks were a highlight for her, Ms Gauci said her kids would probably nominate the fairy floss and ice-cream as theirs.

“We’ve lived in the area for nine years but this is the first time we’ve come to Merimbula for the fireworks and we would definitely do it again,” she said.
