Following on from the choir’s recent success, conductor Geoffrey Badger will be joined by Kate Burke and Dan Scollay to establish a choir of more than 60 voices.
Although rehearsing in different locations, the three groups will join together over the coming year to perform concerts in the Bega Valley, the first being the opening of the Four Winds Festival.
“The three of us just spent four days at the National Choral School in Sydney observing the Gondwana Choirs, who represent some of the best young singers in the country,” Mr Badger said.
“Thanks to Four Winds funding we were also able to attend conducting workshops in the afternoons.
“It was a brilliant opportunity to hone skills and observe some of the country’s best conductors and music educators at work with such dedicated children.”
Ms Burke and Ms Scollay have both worked as community music facilitators for over 10 years.
Ms Burke has run vocal workshops at festivals all over the country, while Ms Scollay leads adult choir That Bunch of Singers and has led the Deep River choir in Moruya for the last three years as well as working with Four Winds and at Bermagui Public School.
“We’re really excited by the possibilities for a large children’s choir in the Bega Valley with perhaps an ongoing relationship with Gondwana Choirs and the Sydney Children’s Choir through the Four Winds Inspiring program,” Ms Scollay said.
“Our aim is to create beautiful music and to provide music education through singing.”
The choir is currently for children aged 10-15.
Rehearsals are weekly from 4.15-5.30pm, starting from February 7, on Tuesdays in Candelo, Wednesdays in Bermagui and Thursdays in Bega.
