Superintendent Jeff Loy comes to the post with 25 years policing experience, including time as a detective in drug law enforcement, the homicide squad and major crime squads.
He led teams of anti-theft squads and target action groups and spent time at three regional LACs before his latest appointment, which is based in Batemans Bay.
During his career he has earned several regional, state and national awards, including the bronze medal for bravery and Commissioner's commendation for courage.
Superintendent Loy says he is taking a pro-active approach to every aspect of regional policing.
His key priorities are crime reduction and prevention, traffic control, road safety, maintaining public order, alcohol and drug related issues and ensuring his team is ready for any emergency.
And, while he said there is a lot of work to do, Superintendent Loy said the Far South Coast community already enjoyed a "very disciplined and productive" police presence, which was most evident in what was one the quietest New Year periods in a long time.
Superintendent Loy is married with three teenage sons.
He has been involved in surf lifesaving for three decades and still enjoys rowing and sweeping surfboats.
He also has post-graduate qualifications and is pursuing his Masters in Business Administration.
Meanwhile, Bega is to lose our senior police officer, Inspector Shane Box, to Queanbeyan.
A farewell dinner will be held at the Bega RSL Club on Friday, March 10.
