Letters to the Editor

25 May 12 | Law unto itself The residents of our community are very unhappy about the destruction of fauna and flora in Wanatta Lane, Wolumla. Hollow bearing trees should not have been cut down until winter - June or July.
22 May 12 | Back in my day In the line at the store, the check-out girl told an older man that he should bring his own grocery bags because plastic bags weren’t good for the environment.
18 May 12 | Ridiculous poll Let me get this straight. At a recent meeting of the Bega Valley Shire Council, all except two of the councillors voted for a poll on the future of the Pambula Hospital be held in conjunction with the September council elections - and ratepayers would pay!
15 May 12 | Citizens or Consumers? In the Bermagui Post Office an Electoral Commission promotion of new enrolments reads “It’s your Australia - have a say”. Increasing numbers of us are doubtful whether it is our Australia at all.
11 May 12 | Wild beauty Keep wonderful Bithry as intended. This April, I was fortunate enough to participate in a week’s bushwalking through Mimosa Rocks National Park with a group of like-minded companions.
08 May 12 | Black or white Like most in the community, I am becoming increasingly disappointed and despondent at the level of debate about climate change in Australia.   | CommentsComments (1)
04 May 12 | Burn the barn My father, Roy Grounds, and his partner at “Penders”, Ken Myer, donated their property to the NPWS of NSW for that body to be the custodian for the conservation of all native flora and fauna.
01 May 12 | Renewable energy under attack Mr Constance, you are opposed to a carbon tax. The NSW Energy Minister Chris Hartcher has said the NSW Government will no longer be supporting green schemes that require a subsidy.
27 Apr 12 | Food for thought The new Woolworths development proposed for Bermagui offers some very serious food for thought. How do current and future residents envisage buying their “fresh” food in years to come?
24 Apr 12 | Beauty of trees It disappoints me to read all the negative writings and verbal comments recently of our centrally located trees. Trees can provide the natural environment that is sorely lacking in a jungle of concrete in many CBDs.
20 Apr 12 | No job too hard An open letter to BVSC general manager Peter Tegart. Dear Mr Tegart, I am writing to you in many capacities to express how lucky we are to have such a wonderful and dedicated work crew in Tathra.
17 Apr 12 | Desired effect As president of the Bega Chamber of Commerce and Industry I would like to congratulate everyone that has been involved in the redesign of Littleton Gardens.
13 Apr 12 | Unwarranted attack Catching up on things after a short absence from the area, I was dismayed to read comments in the letters to the editor about the town hall, which disparaged Mr Sartori, the council’s infrastructure manager.
10 Apr 12 | Strong links with community I thought it would be good to point out that the Lions Club of Bermagui/Cobargo was serving at the recent CRABS motorbike fund raising for cancer.
05 Apr 12 | Thinking big My name is Tom Grant and I am 11 years old and live at Wyndham. I strongly believe we should have a vote on food imports. For one reason, imagine how much richer the country would be if we sold only Australia-grown food. Secondly, at least make the farmers have a profit – they do the hard work.   | CommentsComments (2)
03 Apr 12 | Gardens emphasis To the Mayor and general manager, I am writing to you to express my concern at the emphasis that is being placed on car parking in the Littleton Gardens development.
30 Mar 12 | New not always better I wish to make comment on your editorial (BDN, 23/3). You state that the condition of the town hall shocked you.
