Letters to the Editor
8:55 AM AEST | Cycle path wanted
As far as I’m aware Bega Shire Council exists primarily to serve all the citizens of the Bega Valley.
For the council to blow $150,000 on the Tathra ring-road feasibility exercise is just plain nuts.
02 Sep 10 | Collective wisdom
I was interested to read the collective wisdom of the Potoroo Palace directors (BDN, 20/8).
They raise concerns about the use of plant matter (biomass) to generate electrical energy.
27 Aug 10 | Missing the point
I think there is a very important aspect missing in the debate regarding the three entrenched Independents.
Putting aside all their free flowing bulldust, the first thing they will be looking at is self preservation.
24 Aug 10 | Leaderless
Right now, we have no national leader and it is a symbolic result.
This reflects the way people feel: leaderless.
On Saturday the voters let Labor know that they are not interested in a party whose only vision is to keep power.
Will Labor reply by offering genuine alternatives to the Liberals or will Labor continue on its aimless path and become even more irrelevant?
20 Aug 10 | Ring road fiasco
Like many shire residents, I read with dismay in your newspaper about council’s recent decision to again defer or perhaps even destroy any positive action in restoration of Tathra Wharf Ring Road.
17 Aug 10 | Book sale
On polling day, Bega High P&C will be holding a second-hand book stall to help raise funds to purchase electronic whiteboards for the school.
13 Aug 10 | Not nice
I know he has really big ears, but does Julia Gillard have to keep calling him Mister Rabbit.
Not nice, Julia.

10 Aug 10 | Ring road OK
Some BDN correspondents and some councillors are suggesting that rebuilding the Tathra Wharf ring road is a waste of money.
Many others in our community believe that the original road is as much part of Tathra’s heritage as the wharf itself and should be restored. Well over 400 local residents signed a petition to this effect.
06 Aug 10 | More help needed
As many businesses in the Bega district may already be aware (especially Eden, Pambula and Bega) as they have already been contacted about donating, staff and “friends” of the Bega District Hospital have been fundraising for a desperately needed new humidicrib for the maternity unit.
03 Aug 10 | Safe or unsafe?
I attended the public meeting on July 26 about the Bega Valley Waste Facility at Wanatta Lane.
Only to learn that the water on my roof was safe for me to drink, but not safe enough for the staff at the dump to drink the water off their roofs. The staff will be supplied with bottled water for drinking.

30 Jul 10 | Candidate’s forum
I am keen to extend an invitation to your readers to join us for South East Q and A – The Race for Eden-Monaro.
With Australia going to the polls on August 21, ABC South East is keen to help Bega Valley locals make an informed choice.
27 Jul 10 | Diabetes thanks
After National Diabetes Week, I write to commend organisers and continue the focus.
For people with diabetes, this is an illness not just for one week, but 52 weeks a year. There is no holiday from diabetes.
We know that managing diabetes places many demands and health pressures on the people with diabetes and their carers.
23 Jul 10 | Consultation needed
John Cursley (BDN 20/7) is quite right when he says, “we haven’t thought about what we want to do with the town hall enough and we need to do better”.
What ever we, the community and the council decides to do in this matter will have an impact on the community for at least the next 20 years and we’re going to spend a good deal of money on it so we need to take our time and get it right.
20 Jul 10 | Issues with council
I am writing in relation to your front page article (BDN 9/7).
I must say that I am very disappointed about the way you reported the story.
I am most upset that you referred to the three Aboriginal Elders who came along in support of their Chairperson as “three other Aboriginals”.

13 Jul 10 | Excellent care
The Bega Valley Community is fortunate to have such a great aged care facility as Hillgrove House.
My wife June was a resident there for the last two and a half years. During that time she received first-class care and consideration from a dedicated and professional staff.
09 Jul 10 | Frustration shared
The sense of frustration expressed by Steve Strevens over our long promised and forever delayed new hospital, is doubtless shared by the entire populace of the Bega Valley (BDN 2/7), but perhaps there is still a way to secure its future?
06 Jul 10 | Reply to Graham
Your friends were right Graham Pettigrew (BDN 18/6) you should not have responded to my letter, as they knew that all I said was absolutely true.
I will not, however, descend to your level of comment and simply re-state the truth.
02 Jul 10 | Hospital thanks
I am writing this letter as a good news story for a change.
I recently attended the Bega District Hospital emergency department after hours with a non-life threatening medical problem.
29 Jun 10 | Thanks for help
Thank you to the volunteer drivers who do a great job for Community Transport.
Always cheerful and helpful, they often start early in the morning getting people to their appointments and home again.
25 Jun 10 | I have read the letter from Lois Katz (BDN 11/6)) and would like to make some comments from the perspective of someone who has a husband who was on the receiving end of the daily protests that went on at Mumbulla.
