Letters to the Editor
19 Mar 10 | Ride to school
success
Congratulations to Vince Weafer and to about 40 students and staff who rode to school on Wednesday from Tathra.
The large turnout highlighted the number of people who are willing to cycle to school when given the opportunity.
12 Mar 10 | Doctors
delivering
I read your article (BDN 5/3) on the doctors from down south who won’t practice obstetrics in Bega.
Well, if they care to check, there are no doctors in Bega who deliver babies in Bega.
05 Mar 10 | Joke of a ceremony
Unless I am missing something the existing requirements for the granting of Australian citizenship are a joke - unfortunately not a funny one.
As a visitor at a city based council’s mass Australia Day Citizenship ceremony I was appalled at what I witnessed.
26 Feb 10 | Get a grip
It’s about time that Paul Cozens (BDN19/2) got a good grip on himself and became a part of the real world.
I would strongly recommend that he might again visit the Tathra wharf and read the plaque which has been erected by The Institution of Engineers Australia 2008 which reflects on one historical aspect of the wharf.
23 Feb 10 | Honesty best policy
Religion is such a huge topic, one does not want to delve into for fear of offending some of your best friends, but to me honesty is the best policy, and it is only my opinion.
19 Feb 10 | Support for Louise
I write in total support of Louise Raymond’s letter (BDN 12/2).
The letter quite rightly makes the point that the more noise the people of Pambula make about saving their hospital the longer it will take to have our new regional hospital at Bega funded and constructed quickly.
16 Feb 10 | Lucky with health
As one of the representatives on a number of health committees in the Bega Valley it is of great concern to me that I find that a huge percentage of the Bega Valley residents take little or no concern re heath issues.
But if they are in an accident or stricken with some disease they demand the very best of care at the local hospital, both in equipment and clinicians.

09 Feb 10 | Omission
As much as I appreciate my letters being published, and realise some have to be edited, an omission or insertion of a word can change the meaning.
I refer to Responding to Roger (29/1).
I wrote, “I too believe there is God”, not “I believe there is a God”.
As this would suggest I believe in a Supreme Being, which I do not.

05 Feb 10 | Old trees
I have come upon this wonderful old tree (pictured) in my wanderings and want to share it with the readers.
The tree is a spotted gum, the same species as the Cathedral Trees, earmarked for felling, on the approach to Bermagui.
02 Feb 10 | Supporting Roger
While I support the thrust of Roger Jones’ belief (BDN 22/1) that the ills and woes of our climate are due to man’s sinfulness, I would like to add some more specific information.
26 Jan 10 | Thanks for gardens
Thank you to Pauline, Irene and Ralph (BDN Xtra 22/1) for the lovely display of plants at the North Bega roundabout and the neat and tidy entrance to the town.
We have recently been told that all the planting work in Bega’s parks and gardens has been done by volunteers.
They also do all the weeding and watering.
22 Jan 10 | Book sale thanks
So many books and so many customers.
The Rotary Club of Bega would like to thank the residents of Bega and our many visitors for both their contributions at our Book Fair last week.
19 Jan 10 | Help has gone
Energy provider Country Energy is not returning profits locally to expand its moral footprint.
Having contracted infantile paralysis (polio) in 1953 I can no longer sleep exchanging oxygen/Co2 normally, I have to sleep with a CPAP machine.

08 Jan 10 | Another futile meeting (on the Wannatta Lane tip in December) later and we wonder why we continue to bother expecting the council to step up to the plate with the real deal about the proposed tip.
05 Jan 10 | My two children aged 11 and 14 and I are from St Andrews in the Kinglake area and are looking after a rural property here while the owners are on holiday.
18 Dec 09 | Defending the views expressed in my letter (BDN 11/12) I offer the following.
The subject of the final sentence, “without us Bega has nothing” is “us”. This includes the population of Merimbula, Tura Beach, Pambula, Eden and all communities on both sides of the Princes Highway between Eden and the Victorian border.
11 Dec 09 | A answer for Cathy
I write in reply to Cathy Benzie (BDN 20/11).
Being involved in Saving The Pambula Hospital has been a long and tremendous effort from our community for the past two years.
04 Dec 09 | Through your paper may I congratulate all those involved in the dance production of the Ugly Duckling and Swan Lake by Insight Dance and Movement.
27 Nov 09 | At this time of the community’s remembrance and support of the O’Neill and Lambert families in their sad loss 12 months ago, we are being asked to consider the “wharf risk assessment” and to accept the recommendation of the meeting of council and local emergency services “that no fence be erected but that a visual deterrent to be put in place”.
20 Nov 09 | Thanks to Woolies
We are often critical of huge businesses, but on this occasion I
would like to give a word of thanks to Woolworths, in particular its Fresh Food Kids’ Hospital Appeal conducted by Bega Woolworths.
