THE Grand Hotel sponsored Bega Tennis Club night competition will play the last round of competition this week with the four leading teams to take their place in next week's semi-finals.
At this stage it appears Division 2 and 4 semi-final teams are settled with Division 1 and 3 to be decided after this week's rounds.
Bill Blacker, Phil Harris, Howard Blacker and Maria Caragher representing Perry's Menswear are still in the running for a semi-final position after defeating the Tarra Ford team of Norm Jamieson, Mark Irvin, Meryll Davey and Paul James, 30 games to 23 in Division 1.
The Hardwire Automotive team represented by David Foster (John Dedman sub), Pat James, Dave Mullins and Greg Bethell all played well with an upset 34-21 game win over Mark Anderson, Matt Conlan, Pam Eaton and Alistair Clark playing for the Grand Hotel.
The substitute arranged for Alistair Clark was given the wrong information and turned up Thursday night, not Wednesday night, bad luck for the Grand Hotel team.
The second upset in Division 1 was a 29-25 game win to the Caddey, Searl and Jarman team of Rod Sirl, Bob Britten (David Salter sub), Karen Jesina and Richard Johnston over the equal leading team of Clinton Peel, Leigh Rogers, Peter Dickson and Bob Deighton sponsored by LJ Hooker Bega.
Sam Deighton, Lyn Balcomb, Tom Cullen (Julie Went sub) and Boyd Hansen sponsored by Barbecues Galore hold down third position in Division 2 after defeating the MGM Panelbeaters team of Chris Burns, Mark Ubrihien, Phil Benny (Chris Schmid sub) and Mayda Jamieson 30 games to 25.
Peter Newton, Alison Schmid, Michael Grant and Justin Wheatley sponsored by Bega Amcal Chemist retained their form with a 36/16 win over the Kothe & Partners team comprising Frank Foley (Robert Blacker sub), Warren Purnell, Daniel King and Jack Fogarty.
Bruno Johansen (Jon Tapper sub), Steve Noble, Shiralee Balcomb and John Harrison (Chris Sly sub) sponsored by RW Miller Contractors still lead their division after defeating Peter Balcomb, Ray Miller, Gavin Parbery and Margaret Ritchie sponsored by Chemworld Chemist 28 games to 20.
The last match in Division 2 was a 35-18 win to the Bega Mower Centre team comprising Ian Burns, David Jones, Kathy Miller and Noel Perry (Caroline Deighton sub) over Malcolm Clune, Jennifer Kilner, Kim Wheeler and Stuart McPaul sponsored by WM Rixon Auctioneers.
Bruno Johansen, Jon Tapper, Sam Deighton and Ian Burns hold sufficient points to be the four teams playing in the semi-finals.
In Division 3, Ray Spencer, Sharlene Smith, Tony Boyle and Barry King sponsored by the Highway Store all played well and had their first win of the competition by defeating Margaret Deighton, Trent Barber sub, Chandima Lyanage (sub) and Rebecca McPaul 31 games to 28.
Two of Margaret's team members failed to arrange reserves for the match, which may had some bearing on the match scores.
Rob Whitford, Steve Caragher, Tom Wheatley and Sue Bethell sponsored by Bega Valley Pets and Aquarium, kept their team in the semi-final race with a 35-20 win over the Griffith Tierney Solicitors team of Trish Sly, David Meyer, Gerard McGilvray (Luke Sly sub) and Alison Foley (Mary Hourigan sub).
The Bega Valley Tiles team of Alf Caldwell, Caroline Deighton, Stuart Meyers and Corinne Markov retained second position in Division 2 by defeating David Slow, Sharon Davidson, Helen Trimble and Julie Benny sponsored by Bega Pizza.
Carolyn Lucas, Ian Deighton, Warren Peel (Ben Campbell sub), and Kerry Wheatley sponsored by Momsen Motors still lead Division 2 after defeating the Hayes Haulage team of Fiona Ubrihien, Russell Kull, Adam Blacka and Donna Gilmour 33-25.
Special thanks go out to Daniel Boyle for subbing at very short notice in David Slow's team.
Division 4 semi-final teams are settled after last week's results with Alison Coman (Rodney Griffin Pty Ltd), Phil Stewart (PJ O'Brien Electronics), Steve Jennings (Mobil Bega) and CJ Sautelle (Horizon Credit Union) in unbeatable positions.
The results from last week in Division 4 was a draw between CJ Sautelle and Andrew Clark, Steve Jennings defeated Phil Steward 26-21 and Mark Zonneveld defeated Serena Brace-Clark 24-8.
The pointscore after Round 10 is as follows.
Division 1 - Clinton Peel, Mark Anderson and David Foster 24, Craig Nicholson, Bill Blacker and Rod Sirl 20, Norm Jamieson 20.
Division 2 - Bruno Johansen 28, Jon Tapper 27, Sam Deighton 25, Ian Burns 24, Malcolm Clune 20, Peter Newton and Frank Foley 18, Chris Burns 16 and Peter Balcomb 14.
Division 3 - Carolyn Lucas 28, Alf Caldwell 26, Rob Whitford and Chris Sly 24, Margaret Deighton 22, Fiona Ubrihien 20, Trish Sly 18, David Slow and Ray Spencer 14.
Division 4 - Alison Coman 27, Phil Steward and Steve Jennings 26, CJ Sautelle 22, Mark Zonneveld 20, Andrew Clark 16 and Serena Brace-Clarke 13.
This week's tennis is the last round before the semi-finals and will be a supper night so all players are requested to bring along a plate which may be cakes, sandwiches, finger food or savouries to end the competition with a good social evening.
Please arrange a reserve for yourself if unable to play for your team.
