Although the outdoor temperature was a little chilly, the evening went well, with the Jet Setting Drovers taking out the major trophy.
The team consisted of locals Sam Gordon, Taylor Meers, Madeline Gordon and Brittany Meers.
The Clark Rideaux Solicitors $150 for 150 Years Relay was won by the We Can’t Lose team of Zoe Harris, Scott Meaker, Russell Meers and Troy Mott.
Heather Law was on hand to present the cheque on behalf of the sponsors.
The National Australia Bank 33m sprint winners were:
U/13 girls: Sarah Fun-ston, U/13 boys: Nic Mott, U/17 girls: Brooke Willis, Open women’s: Zoe Harris, Over 30 women’s: Tina Deacon, Over 30 men’s: Scott Meaker, Over 40 women’s: Maree Boulton, Over 40 men’s: Brad Swan, Over 50 women’s: Heather Law, Over 50 men’s: Russell Meers, Over 60 men’s: Phil Harris.
BASC swimming coach Zoe Harris said the event was well received.
“The team entries were on par with last year, the NAB Sprints were again well supported with 37 individual entries for this event,” she said.
“The Clark Rideaux $150 for 150 years Relay continues to grow in popularity and had an excellent field of quality teams entered.”
Harris said the night was a huge success.
“The Business House Relay, NAB sprints and the Clark Rideaux $150 for 150 years relay were all hotly contested,” she said.
“Some great times were recorded by the young and the not so young on the night.
“The event ran really smoothly with some adjustments to the format; this year the first heat was run as a re-handicapping heat and all teams got to swim again at least once.
“The event flowed well and finished not too late, at about 8.30pm.”
On the night, club members Bob Britten and Ulli Cliff were presented with a small token of appreciation for kindly donating their time to BASC.
Although their children have been out of the club for sometime, Bob and Ulli have continued with their support.
Without the generosity of volunteers the club would struggle to run.
It was fantastic to see so many new faces enjoying the evening and in turn supporting the club.
Harris said the relay is BASC’s major fundraiser for the year.
“This was a great opportunity for the broader community to come and
see the young Bega Swimming Club swimmers in action,” she said.
“It was also great to see so many swimmers from the recent and not so recent past turn up to reacquaint themselves with the ‘black line’ and rekindle some old rivalry.
“The event was also successful in raising close to $900 on the night.
“This was achieved as a result of the barbecue, chocolate wheel raffles, team entries and sponsorship from National Australia Bank and Clark Rideaux Solicitors.”
In other news, this week’s Swimmers of the Week Award went
