19 Mar 10 | SUSAN Pratley will look to make an early impression when the 2010 ANZ Netball Championships begin this weekend. The NSW Swifts start their campaign against Queensland Firebirds tomorrow night at the Gold Coast Exhibition Centre. Pratley, who turns 26 on Tuesday, said she was reasonably happy with her preparation.
12 Mar 10 | LOCAL surfer Kai Otton has made a promising start to the 2010 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) tour by finishing equal fifth in the season opener. Otton caused a major upset when he defeated reigning ASP world champion and fellow Australian Mick Fanning during the fourth round of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast last Thursday.
05 Mar 10 | THE annual Bega Valley Motors Pro-Am is being held tomorrow at the Bega Country Club. The event has had ideal preparation courtesy of the recent heavy rainfall. Bega Country Club captain Glenn Edmonds said the course was in great shape.
26 Feb 10 | LOCAL greyhound fans will be cheering on rising star Galba Jack tomorrow night. The three-year-old dog is owned by Bemboka resident Dave Allen and is among the favourites in the MTD Australia Cup special event final.
23 Feb 10 | AFTER last week’s heavy rainfall caused damage to the Bega Netball Club’s courts and clubhouse, a working bee was held on Saturday morning. The community was asked to get behind the club to assist with the clean up. Club registrar Cathy Johnson said she was pleased with the support.
19 Feb 10 | TEENAGER Nathan Barnden has returned from his European hockey trip with Wanderers Australia. The team, ranging in ages from 14 to 18-years-old, experienced a three-week journey through France, Belgium, Holland and England.
16 Feb 10 | A RAINY day greeted the Sapphire Water Dragons (SWD) on arrival at Lake Jindabyne for the dragon boat regatta on Sunday. Twenty-two SWD members enjoyed the experience of the Flowing Festival at Jindabyne. A carnival atmosphere was enjoyed on the shore of the lake, overlooking the dragon boat course.
09 Feb 10 | KALARU trainers Chris and Michelle Strickland dominated the Bega Cup race day at the Sapphire Coast Turf Club on Sunday. The Stricklands won the $25,000 TLE Electrical Sky Gold Bega Cup with Sebony and one of the main supporting races with his stablemate Mr Massee.
05 Feb 10 | LOCAL trainers Chris and Michelle Strickland are looking to score their first Bega Cup victory at the Sapphire Coast Turf Club on Sunday. The Stricklands will have two representatives on the day: Mr Massee in the benchmark 55 handicap over 1600m and Sebony in the feature race.
02 Feb 10 | LOCAL tennis veteran John Rheinberger successfully competed at the Australian Seniors Tennis Championships on the Gold Coast recently. Rheinberger played in the 65 years men’s grade and finished with a gold and silver medal.
26 Jan 10 | TATHRA is in a dominant position after the conclusion of day one in their two-day contest thanks mainly to a century from Ben O’Reilly. That was despite a superb performance from Bega/ Angledale’s Rohan Stocker. The Sea Eagles should wrap up a convincing outright victory this weekend with the Bulls trailing by 171 runs with four wickets remaining.
22 Jan 10 | A LOCAL roller hockey team that began just six months ago is headed for Melbourne to compete at The Silver Cup tournament, a national competition. Team organiser Rob McIlhagga said the team departed for Melbourne on Wednesday, to play games on Thursday and Friday, plus potential semi-finals and finals over the weekend.
19 Jan 10 | THE annual Tathra Wharf to Waves on the weekend was a huge success, despite patchy weather. While entries in the Fun Run and Bega to Beach bike ride on Saturday were slightly up, there was a huge increase in the swimming events on Sunday.
