Wood pellet plant approved

07 Feb, 2012 02:43 PM
THE controversial pilot wood pellet fuel plant in Eden has been approved by the Bega Valley Shire Council.

Councillors voted 6-2 in favour of the project, with councillors Keith Hughes and Liz Seckold against.

The pellet plant has come under fire from conservationists and the original decision to approve its development application was overturned by the Land and Environment Court in December.

A number of conditions were imposed and the DA was resubmitted to BVSC.

A decision on the pellet plant was deferred at the January meeting, but today's ruling was applauded by South East Fibre Exports general manager Peter Mitchell.
