We can fix the mess: Constance

15 Feb, 2011 08:25 AM
MEMBER for Bega Andrew Constance believes the people of the Bega electorate are looking for a strong action plan to turn the Far South Coast and the state of NSW around.

“Only the Liberals have a plan to fix the mess created by 16 years of NSW Labor on the Far South Coast,” he said.

“From the shutdown of hospital services to the poor condition of the region’s highways to the mismanagement of the state’s electricity leading to massive price hikes, people are saying to me that they’ve had enough.

“They are sick of the corruption, cronyism, incompetence and selfishness of the current government.

“Having worked hard as the State Member for Bega over the past eight years I believe I have the experience necessary to bring the change at a local level that will improve the quality of life for residents on the Far South Coast.

“I have and will continue to be a strong local voice, and unlike my opponents I’m the only candidate standing who wants a change of government.”

Mr Constance said after listening to members of the community, he has worked with opposition leader Barry O’Farrell to develop a five-point action plan that will make a difference to the Bega electorate.

“I believe good government must understand the aspirations of local people and communities if it’s to deliver the best possible outcomes,” he said.

“Firstly, the high cost of living and electricity prices must be addressed.

“Labor has approved electricity prices hikes greater than 60 per cent for local families and small business leaving many in financial stress.

“We will kick-start the region’s economy through payroll tax relief and offer rebates for people to relocate out of Sydney and contribute to our local economy.

“Unlike my opponents I want to see local jobs growth and our local industries flourish.

“Our tourism, fishing, agricultural and timber industries deserve certainty and not the demise planned by the Labor Green alliance.

“We will work with the Commonwealth to build the new regional hospital at Bega.

“I will continue to fight to ensure the best possible outcomes for education from our preschools, to primary and high schools to TAFE to community colleges to universities.

“We will put in place a plan to upgrade the region’s highways including a focus on the areas cited by the State Coroner when he recommended upgrades at Dignams and Victoria Creek on the Princes Highway.

“I’m also committed to working with local government and communities on infrastructure projects such as the wharf and planned marina development in Eden and the marina development in Batemans Bay.”
