Police Beat

30 Jun, 2009 08:45 AM
A TATHRA man, 32, has been charged with a number of offences following an incident last Sunday night.

The man was stopped in Tathra by police for a roadside breath test.

After blowing a positive reading he allegedly assaulted two police officers.

He was arrested and conveyed to the Bega Police Station where he refused a breath analysis.

He was charged with two counts of assault and resisting arrest and also charged with refusal of a breath analysis.

He will appear at Bega Local Court in July.

At 2.20am on Sunday residents near the Bega West Public School were woken after a vehicle crashed through a side fence of the school.

A number of residents left their homes to check on the welfare of the vehicle’s occupants.

A male was subsequently seen leaving the vehicle and walking away from the scene of the accident.

Upon arrival at the scene the police were informed of the direction the man had taken and he was located a short time later.

The man, aged 25 of Bega, was arrested for traffic matters and for driving with a mid-range PCA.

He is to appear at Bega Local Court in August.

Break-and-enter offenc-es are continuing at residences and commercial premises throughout Bega.

Bega Police sergeant Justin Marks once again urges residents and business owners to be vigilant in securing their home or business.

Last week a 43-year-old Bega man was arrested and charged with a break and enter offence at a house in Bega.

He is to appear at Bega Local Court next month.

Police are also investigating a number of other similar break-and-enter crimes.

Anyone with information relating to other break-ins in the town are asked to contact Bega Police Station on 6492 9999.

“People who are going away, in particular, are urged to let their neighbours or the police know what they are doing. If the police are informed they can maintain patrols of the area while the premises is unattended and neighbours can also keep an eye open for any suspicious activity,” Sergeant Marks said.
