STEPHANIE Dyson was a much loved Bega resident who died earlier this year after a long battle with illness.
Stephanie worked for eight years as an artist educator in the Art in the Garage project that provides a supportive art studio for artists with a disability and is part of Tulgeen Disability Services Access program.
She was an inspiration to her colleagues and to the artists with disabilities who she worked with.
Stephanie was a fearless advocate for the vulnerable and her passion and patience for nurturing the art making process has left a legacy of enlightened educational techniques and provided inspiration for a large body of very special art works.
She requested that instead of flowers at her funeral a collection be made with donations received going to the Art in the Garage.
Family and friends donated a generous sum of money that will be used towards purchase of a printing press.
Stephanie had a particular love of printmaking and had introduced printmaking to the project via facilitating work shops and knowledge sharing.
A plaque commemorating the origins of funding for the press and also to honor Stephanie’s major contributions to the project and its artists will be installed in the courtyard of the new arts environment currently under construction at 35 Eden Street, Bega.
