INDIGENOUS residents of Bega are encouraged to apply for Commonwealth Bank’s Indigenous School Based Traineeship program, which is now open for applications.
The traineeship will begin in December 2010 at the Bega branch of the Commonwealth Bank.
Applications close on August 31.
The Commonwealth Bank is offering 34 new traineeships across Australia, adding to the 64 trainees currently working with the Bank.
The bank has been offering traineeships since 2003, initially providing traineeship positions to Year 11 and Year 12 students throughout Commonwealth Bank branches in New South Wales.
Indigenous employment manager, Phil Lockyer, said the Commonwealth Bank is committed to creating opportunities for indigenous students to develop their skills and build a career in the financial services industry.
“These traineeships offer indigenous students the opportunity to work in different areas of our organisation, gaining valuable workplace skills and building relationships and confidence,” Mr Lockyer said.
Mr Lockyer added that while the majority of traineeships are offered in the Bank’s branch network, the program also includes other areas of the Commonwealth Bank, such as business and private banking and enterprise services.
“We are committed to ensuring indigenous employees have the opportunity to gain experience in as many areas of the bank as possible,” Mr Lockyer said.
The Indigenous Employment Strategy forms part of the Commonwealth Bank’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
