She said that Dr Long was a young and respected orthopaedic surgeon who grew up in the Bega Valley and then returned to practise there, but tragically lost his life in 2006.
The Minister said she was celebrating with the gathering the three million dollars worth of enhancements to the Bega District Hospital in the form of a new operating theatre and upgrade of existing facilities as well as the establishment of a new renal dialysis unit.
"These are very exciting enhancements for the staff and community who access the Bega District Hospital, providing access to modern facilities while we continue planning for a new hospital in the Bega Valley Shire, said the Minister.
