Visits to Bemboka gardens
During April the Bega and District Garden Club hosted a wonderful day for the Bemboka Garden Club members as members visited three gardens in close proximity in Bega.
The first was at Black Range Road, where after the tour, morning tea was served.
Next was on Kerrisons Lane where members were treated to a variety of cuttings, bulbs and rhizomes during the visit.
Finally a late picnic lunch and barbecue was enjoyed at Linkwood Estate along with garden chatter and idea swapping to round off the afternoon.
The annual effort in aid of a worthy cause is fast approaching, the sale of flowers for Mother's Day.
On Friday, May 10, a call goes out to all garden minded residents of Bega and district to donate flowers and/or foliage to be made by the Garden Club into bunches, posies and baskets ready for sale on Saturday, May 11.
Please deposit the flowers and foliage at the CWA Hall in Church Street, Bega, from 8.30am on Friday 10. Your flower donations will be gratefully received.
The flower stall will be at Ayres Walkway from 9am on Saturday, May 11 and the proceeds will be donated to the local Voluntary Rescue Association.
The VRA is a very worthwhile cause, as many of us need rescuing from time to time.
There is an associated raffle in progress in Bega.
Sellers are at Target and Woolworths with wonderful prizes on display, a garden cart full of garden goodies.
Another prize is a Mother's Day cake, also a variety of scratchy tickets.
Proceeds of the raffle also go to the VRA
Due to the sale of flowers on Saturday, May 11, there will be no meeting of members for May.
All are welcome to the next meeting on June 8 at Lions Park, Mogareeka.

Evening View
The next meeting of the Bega Evening View Club will be held at the Bega RSL on Thursday, May 9, 7.00pm for 7.30pm.
The theme is Mother's Day so members are asked to invite their mother or a female friend along for the evening.
A donation to the Smith Family of an unwrapped gift of toiletries for a young mother will be appreciated.
There will be "Guess the Bride" competition, so members are asked to bring along your wedding photo.
The trading table will operate during the evening. This is a good chance for members to clean out cupboards and give someone an opportunity to buy discarded treasures.
View point for May is "The Best Advice My Mother Gave Me".
Members may book by ringing Margaret Voice on 6494 4406 by Monday, May 6.

'Bed and Beyond'
"Bed and Beyond" is the aptly named exhibition of Cuttagee based artist Deborah Mandira, showing at Bega's Spiral Gallery.
Aptly because part of the exhibition features doona covers, just as we feel the first winter chills in the air.
Mandira's textile artwork pushes the boundaries of convention driven by her conviction that art does not have to be in a frame or on a pedestal to have importance in our lives.
"Art can be utilitarian as far as I'm concerned, I want people to be able to live with, on, in, and around their art so it can be practical, as well as beautiful," says Mandira.
This exhibition showcases Mandira's newest passion, natural dyes.
A broad range of her current works are featured in this exhibit - "textiles for the earthly pleasures of bed, table and living", featuring quilt covers, a series of tablecloths, cushions stuffed with pure Aussie wool, a small range of inventive muslin clothing and silk pants and lengths and lengths of delicious silks and cottons.
These are either shibori, using natural dye, or printed using a variety of her own innovative techniques using synthetic dye, but featuring as printing surfaces grasses and leaves from the garden and the wild.
The exhibition will be opened on Friday, May 3, at 5.30pm at Spiral Gallery, Church Street, Bega, and will remain open for two weeks until Thursday, May 16.

Bega Hospital Auxiliary
The South Eastern Regional Zone Day of the United Hospital Auxiliaries was held in the Bega Bowling Club on Wednesday, April 17.
Members thank the staff for making the day so successful.
Attending the day were Mrs Andrea Mulligan, state president, Mrs Bobby Free, regional representative, Lesley Smith and members from Batemans Bay, Moruya, Cooma, Pambula, Merimbula, Bombala, Tathra and Bega.
President Pat Irving welcomed Mrs Mulligan and all the members and invited Lesley to officially open the proceedings. Lesley apologised for Russell and spoke of the voluntary work done by auxiliaries.
The Branch reports contained many and varied methods of fundraising.
Bobby Free remarked that this region had raised a quarter of the $5.5 million dollars raised by the state last year.
The guest speakers were Barry Irvin, chairman of the Bega Co-Operative who spoke of the Co-operative's operations and future developments, which was most interesting and enlightening. Stuart Murphy, Bega District Hospital's deputy manager gave a very light hearted account of his 20 years of nursing.
Altogether, it was a most interesting, informative and enjoyable day.

Ray White Granny
A well known face behind the counter at Ray White Real Estate has been absent since last week.
Maria Caragher flew to Darwin last week to await the birth of her first grandchild.
Brett and his wife Sandra managed to drag the event out as long as possible and didn't produce the grandchild until Monday April 29. Brett and Sandra gave birth to Keiarnna Rose Corrigan at 2.05pm (Darwin time). For those that like statistics Keiarnna weighed 8lb 10ozs and was 20 and a half inches long and is absolutely beautiful.
Proud great-grandparents are Peter and Elaine Caragher who are eager to get to Darwin to check out the new addition.
Call into Ray White and Maria is bound to have a photo or several to show you.
