Laurel Club
Members of the Bega Laurel Club had a wonderful day at the snow on Blue Cow Mountain.
It turned into a blizzard and the members saw skiers and boarders but were in the lovely warm building looking out.
It managed to snow and the scenery looked like a post card.
Members boarded the ski-tube at Bullocks Flat and went up to Perisher and Blue Cow.
Then they headed back to Cooma where they had afternoon tea and visited Country Past Times craft barn where they had a spinning demonstration.
Jan Woodridge donated homemade cakes and slice as well as a gift.
Marjorie Ritton won the prize for August.
The naxt meeting will be at the Bega RSL Club on Monday, September 17, at 10.30am.
Go along and help plan the next outing.

Hospital
auxiliary
At the August meeting of the Bega Hospital Auxiliary the president Pat Irving welcomed all those present and congratulated Norma Thorpe on being one of the district recipients of a Community Volunteer Certificate which was presented at a morning tea at St John’s.
Several members also attended the morning tea given by council to honour volunteers of the district.
The auxiliary has agreed to provide an oximeter for children’s ward and has recieved a request for more IV pumps.
The new capsule for low birth weight babies has been given to the maternity ward.
A request for comfortable chairs or a lounge to furnish a rest area for staff was considered.
Anyone with such items they no longer need could donate them to the auxiliary and would receive the grateful thanks of the staff.
The auxiliary is rostered for the Red Cross tearooms on Tuesday, September 11.
Plans are under way for a Christmas stall in November.
The annual conference of UHA will be held in Sydney on October 17 and 18. Details will be available at the next meeting on Friday, September 21.

New group
If you have lost someone close to you, or are a carer who would like an hour or so of relaxation, or if you just need someone else to talk to over a cuppa, then go along to the Tathra Uniting Church in Beach Street, Tathra, next Thursday, September 13, from 2pm to 3.30pm for afternoon tea, and fortnightly from then on.

Brain injury phone-in
There will be a brain injury phone-in on Thursday, September 20.
It is for anyone who wants to ask something about acquired brain injury or say something about their experience of brain injury.

Cobargo club
The September meeting of the Cobargo Garden and Friendship Club will be held on September 13 at the home of Susan and Bill Row, Spencers Rd, Wandella.
The day commences at noon, so bring your own lunch.

Church team visits Cobargo
A team of enthusiastic and energetic members of the Uniting Church in Tathra will make their way to the Cobargo Uniting Church this Sunday night.
After sharing a meal at 6pm, the Tathra team will conduct a service which will include choruses, musical items, testimonies and a short message.
Members of the Cobargo Uniting Church invite everyone to join them for dinner at 6pm or the service at 7pm.

Chipping in
Bermagui golfers “chipped in” an extra gold coin when playing on August 15 for the Nutriway Chip fundraising event for the Children’s Cancer Institute of Australia.
The golfers who “chipped in” have gone into a draw to win a round of golf with world number one female golfer, Karrie Webb.

Rhys’ 21st
Rhys Benny, formerly of Bega, celebrated his 21st birthday with a party in Canberra on August 4.
The theme for the night was a “Booner Birthday Bash” with everyone getting into the theme for the night and dressing up in their Booner outfits.
Some 75 family members and friends travelled from Sydney, Newcastle, Albury and Bega to help Rhys celebrate.
Rhys is currently studying at Canberra University.

Heart Support
Patron Dr Mark Shanahan will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Heart Support Group this Sunday, September 9, at the Sunshine Centre, Pambula, at noon.
This will be especially interesting as Mark is a retired heart surgeon and will speak about his friend and former colleague, the late Dr Victor Chang.
Everyone is most welcome.
At the annual general meeting, the following committee was elected: president Linda Deighton; vice president Alex Gardner; secretary Peter Prince; treasurer Ursula Viebeke; welfare officer Nancy Paterson; and publicity officer Tom Paterson.
Everyone is asked to take a plate to share at lunchtime.

Evening View
On Thursday, September 13, Bega Evening View Club will hold their monthly dinner meeting at the Bega RSL Club at 7.30pm.

The guest speaker will be Claire Joyce from Pambula speaking about her hobby, photography.
Take along a photo that you are proud of, on any subject for the competition which Claire will judge and perhaps give you some good hints to improve your skills.
Don’t forget to wear something black and white in keeping with the theme, fancy dress, if possible, to add to the fun.
View point for the month is “the scope of happiness”.
Last month members enjoyed the guest speaker, Vicky Younger of Red Gum Soaps, and thank her for the wonderful box of her products which she donated for a raffle,

Get dramatic
A one day workshop will be run by playwright and director, Chris Dickins, on Saturday, September 15 at the Merimbula RSL Club from 10am to 4pm.
Take along a very short play you have written or some ideas you could develop.
Chris will address the areas of plot, dialogue and characterisation.
These are important techniques to develop for drama and for other forms of writing.
He will also be looking at the area of street theatre.
It will be a good chance to have fun and see your words come to life.
The event is presented by the FSC division of the Fellowship of Australian Writers.
