Students are awarded merit cards by staff for effort and achievement in areas including academic performance, sport, visual, creative and performing arts, contribution to community and/or school life and exemplary behaviour and/or application.
When a student has collected seven merit cards they are eligible for a Bronze Merit Certificate.
Five Bronze Merit Certificates makes them eligible for a Silver Merit Certificate and three Silver Merit Certificates means they are up for a Gold Medallion.
There are also Diamond students. These students are recognised by staff for consistently displaying outstanding qualities.
This is not the highest level, but it is recognition of students who are working well through the merit system and display qualities that include honesty, reliability, trustworthiness and application.
Diamond students will enjoy privileges at school associated with being exemplary students, including participation in an excursion designed to reward all those who have been nominated.
Businesses within the Bega Valley have also supported the initiative by offering Diamond students discounts on purchases through their outlets. Businesses sponsoring the program include: Retravision, Magpie Music, Perry’s Menswear, Shakti-Ma Emporium, Ritchie’s Bega Newsagency, Bega Business Systems, The Pictureshow Man and Candelo Books.
