Detainees
Three Iranian ex-detainees will attend the usual 10am service at St John's Anglican Church, Bega, this Sunday to conduct an interactive discussion with the congregation and answer questions put to them.
They are here in the area under the auspices of a local group with assistance of a community development grant from the Community Relations Commission for a Multicultural NSW.
During their week in the Bega Valley they will conduct at least 24 workshops in Persian drama, cooking and dance at schools, churches and community groups.
Go along to St John's on Sunday if you wish to hear of their experiences in detention centres first hand.

More than morning tea
Auswide-Reconnect participation in Australia's Biggest Morning Tea recently was more than just a cancer research fundraiser.
They participated as a positive way to engage young people in a voluntary community fundraiser.
It is hoped that the positive interaction would assist in building young people's self esteem and give them a sense of purpose and self satisfaction in helping others less fortunate than themselves.
The activities associated in planning the Biggest Morning Tea also provided important skills which could be adapted as life skills for young people disengaged from their families and school.
Such skills include organisation, planning and time management, planning the menu, shopping and cooking, setting up and packing away and serving coffee, tea and food to the customers.
And they also managed to raise much-needed funds for the Cancer Council while raising the profile of Auswide-Reconnect in the community.
The group raised $124.20 which will be used to provide transport for cancer patients to and from hospital.
Donations were received from Baker's Delight, Bega Cheese, Woolworths and Horizon Credit Union and Greencorps helped set up and pack away.

Mental health
Learn more about mental health at a free training course in Merimbula next week.
The course had been organised by Bega Valley Shire Council's Access and Equity Committee in conjunction with the Regional Tenancy Service.
It has been developed by the Centre for Mental Health Research at the Australian National University with the aim of improving the mental health literacy of the community.
The course will be delivered in the Merimbula RSL Club's function room by experienced mental health trainer, Tina Phillip, next Friday and Saturday (June 25 and 26).
Participants will learn the signs and symptoms of a range of mental health problems and crisis situations including depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, suicidal behaviours, acute stress reaction, panic attacks and acute psychotic behaviour.
They will also learn how and where to get help and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.
Anyone with an interest in mental health can attend but it is not recommended for people currently experiencing disabling mental health problems.
For more information about the workshop or to register phone Mary Grealy on 6499 2164.

Field of Hearts
The Elm Grove Sanctuary Trust and Bermagui-Narooma Rural Australians for Refugees have been collecting decorated hearts from many of the schools in the Bega Valley Shire this week to take them to Canberra as part of celebrations on World Refugee Day on Sunday, June 20.
The Field of Hearts will be displayed on the lawns of Parliament House.
It was launched in the ACT last year for UN World Refugee Day as a way for Australians to show their heartfelt feelings for refugees who have come to our land in great need.
The EGS Trust provided the multi-coloured hearts to schools in the area so that the children could participate in the event and show their support and understanding for the plight of refugees.
Students from Cobargo and Tanja Public Schools, Mumbulla School, Narooma and Bega High Schools have written messages, poems, painted pictures and pasted cut-outs depicting their feelings for refugees on the hearts.

PM's
sculpture
A controversial sculpture of the Prime Minister by a former Bega artist, greg Taylor, will be on display in Cobargo this weekend. The bronze of the Pm wearing an oversized digger's uniform and army boots is entitled "If the Boots Don't Fit".
It gained national prominence when it was installed in Canberra for a short time earlier this year before being removed by Federal Police.
The sculpture will be part of an Arts Music Expo at the Cobargo Hotel tomorrow (Saturday) with proceeds going to the children's ward at the Bega District Hospital.
