Antiques and collectables
Free advice for the conservation of Antiques and Collectables is available to you on Saturday, September 27, at the Spring Festival of Arts at the Old Bega Hospital.
Conservators Deb and Sharon will be at the festival to offer their advice.
Take along any items that you can carry.
They do not need to be genuine antiques, just something that you value.
The appraisals are about protection from deterioration and care or repair, but not about valuation.
The conservators will work from the secure front office at the Old Bega Hospital from 10am to 3pm.
You can safely leave your items with them while you visit the festival.

Laurel Club
Members of Bega Laurel Club will visit Grevillia Winery on Monday, October 20.
There will be meeting at 11am followed by lunch.
Cars will leave from the Bega RSL Club at 10.45am.

Senior Citizens
Guest speaker at the September meeting of the Bega Senior Citizens Club was Maryanne Brooker who talked about diabetes.
The club's next outing will be a bus trip to Mogo Zoo.
There will be lunch and afternoon tea.
The bus will leave the Bega RSL Club on Sunday, October 12, at 9am.

Tathra Garden Competition
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Tathra Garden Competition, initially introduced by the Tathra Lions Club to foster an awareness of the district's beauty and to show how the surroundings could be improved.
Judging will be on Friday, October 24, and the presentation and barbecue will be held at Kangarutha on Sunday, October 26, at noon.
Entry forms will be available from September 22 from Tathra Butchery, Sea Whispers, Kalaru Hardware and Kangarutha Nursery.
Tathra residents are asked to enter their gardens and new gardeners are especially welcome.
The sponsors as usual are Kangarutha Nursery and Tathra Lions Club.

Men's Breakfast
The next ecumenical men's breakfast will take place on Saturday September 27th in St John's Parish Hall at 8am.
The guest speaker will be Graeme Blomfield, giving the legal point of view of guardianship and power of attorney and similar aspects encountered by family and carers of an ageing society as reasoning powers diminish.
All men of the community are welcome.

Fashion parade
The Bega and District Nursing Home will present a spring fashion parade on Wednesday, September 24, at the Bega Bowling Club at 7.30pm.
Proceeds will go towards a precision weighing device which can be attached to a lifting machine.
Tickets for the parade may be purchased from Rene Claire Fashions.

Garden Club
The Bega and District Garden Club will hold a "Garden Meander" in the Bega-Tathra area on Sunday, September 28, from 10am until 4pm.
Six beautiful gardens will be opened for your enjoyment beginning at Joy and Ted Graves in Panorama Drive, Tathra.
Maps will be handed out here for the remaining five gardens.
Cost is $5 each which will include afternoon tea.

Matthew's birthday
Matthew Jones celebrated his 5th birthday last week with family and friends and he thanked all the people who made it his best birthday so far.
Matthew's dad, Leon Jones, turned 40 the same week and also thoroughly enjoyed his day with family and friends.

Olympics revisited
Bega Valley Christian College students Ali Preo and Alex Whitby recently competed in Athletics at the Sydney Athletics Centre, Homebush Bay, during the CSSA Primary State Carnival team.
They had the chance to see the Olympic cauldron, the relay and runners' torches and other memorabilia.

Dorothy and Don Spence of Stoney Creek will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary tomorrow (Saturday, September 20.)

Orchid club
Members of the Sapphire Coast Orchid Club are reminded that there will be no September meeting because the Spring orchid show is being held on September 25 and 26 in the Bega Town Hall.
The next monthly meeting will be on October 30.

Fashion parade
Sapphire Community Centre will hold a fashion parade and light luncheon at the Merimbula-Imlay Bowling Club on Thursday, September 25, from 10.30am.
Noni B, Gimmie Gimmie, Rockman's, C Kay Fashions, Smarty Pants, Target and Day Footwear will display their latest spring and summer fashions.
Tickets are $12 a head with concessions for children - free childcare is available at the club.
You can buy tickets from the fashion houses, Sapphire Community Centre or at the door.
There will be a raffle on the day with some great prizes.
Money raised will go to the Sapphire Community Centre which provides support services for families in the area.

Welsh reunion
A reunion of the Welsh family (1859-2003) will be held during the October long wee, ending with a celebration luncheon on the Sunday.

Ruby wedding
Congratulations to Roma and Maurice Whitby on reaching their 40th wedding anniversary.
Roma and Maurice were married at Holy Trinity Church, Wyndham, On August 17, 1963.
On the same day 40 years later they celebrated with 80 family friends at Grevillea Winery.
Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch, a beautiful anniversary cake and music by Garry Jones.
A great afternoon was had by all.

Dulcie Buckland of Kalaru recently celebrated her 60th birthday with family and friends at the Tathra Country Club.
Among the guests were her daughter Christine, son-in-law Scot McGarrity, grandson Justin McGarrity, son-in-law David Howse and daughter Linda.
