Jamboree
Before dawn on New Year's Day the Far South Coast Scouts set off for their inspirational journey as Australian Jamboree 2007 Scouts to Elmore Victoria. AJ07 goes from January 1 to 13 for contingents outside of Victoria, with Scouts from all over Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Kiribati, Thailand and the UK.
Scouts will have enjoyed circus carnival training and flight activities, CAMS driver training, a huge water slide, mud games with Venturers or Rover games, Jamboree radio and internet cafe, off-site trips to Lake Eppalock, Bendigo, Echuca and "Bushwacked".
There were various night concerts with opportunities to be Jamboree Idols!
According to www.getinthegame.com.au site, activities ranged from rock sports such as caving, abseiling and climbing to environmental challenges such as getting drinking water from silty, muddy water.
Other off-site activities include Murray River captain challenge, gold mining, go-carting, sailing & swimming at Lake Nagambie.
Bega Scouts will soon return exhausted but triumphant at having mastered a camp with nearly 11,000 other Scouts, Guides and leaders. Bega sent a huge troop with most of the leaders giving up their time and energy to support the Scouts in their biggest leadership roles.
If you are male or female aged from 10 and a half to 14 and a half years, the next jamboree is in three years in Sydney, so 2007 is the time to join Bega Scouts in school term on Wednesday nights from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in the Scout Hall in Gipps St.
This camp is the last official camp for leader Tony Rettke, who has served 10 years, offering a wide range of sea to city to snow experiences.
Bega Scouts thank all the leaders for their efforts in 2006 and especially at AJ07, and acknowledges Tony Rettke's gracious parting gift of caps to all Scouts at their last event for 2006 at Top Fun.
