BROTHERS Matt and Travers Dowling from Bega High School were members of the Student Team of the Week at the prestigious Engineers Australia – Honeywell Engineering Summer School.
The pair, who both expressed an interest in civil and electrical engineering were part of the team chosen by the course co-ordinators from 11 other teams.
The announcement of the team choice was made at a University of Sydney dinner.
“Throughout the week the boys’ team remained focused and enthusiastic on all the engineering projects designed for the students, while at the same time demonstrating consideration and respect for their classmates and other teams,” Steve Finlay, director, Sydney Division, Engineers Australia and co-ordinator of the Summer School said.
The Honeywell Engineering Summer School which has been operating for more than a decade is designed to give budding engineers maximum exposure to the diverse range of engineering careers.
“The Summer School aims to give the Year 11 students a clearer idea of what engineering is and how it works in every-day-life,” Mr Finlay said.
“Without engineers our lives would be very different. There are many things we take for granted that are the result of engineering excellence.”
The students taking part in the School were involved in a series of activities including site visits to Cochlear (designer and manufacturer of the Bionic Ear), the Kurnell Desalination Plant, CSIRO ICT and University of Sydney’s - Australian Centre for Field Robotics and Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology.
