The exhibition, which runs until January 28, will be officially opened by Bega Valley Shire mayor Tony Allen with judge Wendy Teakal, head of the ANU’s Sculpture Workshop, as guest speaker.
Gallery curator Megan Bottari said the opening would celebrate half a century of dedicated artists in the region and welcomed everybody to be the first to see this year’s entries.
“I think the standard of work this year is right up there; the show just seems to get better and better,” Ms Bottari said.
“There was a judging panel of three professionals and, I think, it’s a very egalitarian selection in that there’s no one style that’s been favoured.
“It’s a fantastic snapshot of broad practice across the shire.”
There were 118 entries in this year’s prize, coming from the entire South East Arts region, with 41 selected to hang in the exhibition.
First prize is $15,000, runner-up $2000 and there is a people’s choice award of $500.
