In fact, the bookkeeper at the Women’s Resource Centre in Bega was so overwhelmed by the generosity of one local woman, she nearly burst into tears.
The woman, who asked not to be named, knocked on the door and after asking where there was the most need, gave the centre $1000 cash to buy goods for Christmas hampers.
“It’s amazing the generosity of some people,” said centre coordinator Gabrielle Powell.
“We’re so pleased to be able to use this money to help disadvantaged families.”
The hampers concept is in line with Southern Women’s Group long-standing program of care to women and children in the Bega Valley.
Southern Women’s Group and The Women’s Resource Centre provide a range of accessible information and referral, community development, capacity building and advocacy services for women and their children.
The 10 hampers that have been made up by home schooler Lucinda Walker and her mother Jude will go to families from the WRC, Family Support Service, Auswide Projects – Reconnect Service, South East Women’s And Children Service – Staying Home Leaving Violence, Centrecare, Ricky’s Place and Community Health clients.
The Women’s Resource Centre is a public benevolent institution, so if you’d like to add your support, all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
